A little bit about…

BOY KING

Boy King Theatre Collective is a new San Diego theatre and performance art co-op. Conceived in 2024 and established in 2025, BKTC is a group of likeminded young artists; united under the motto “HUMILITAS, SERVITUM, VIRIDITAS”- or HUMILITY, SERVICE, VIGOR– we create live performances rooted in corporeal experimentation, cooperative leadership, and a lil’ ol’ fashioned artistic scrappiness. Utilizing the individual skill set of each member, alongside a flurry of cardboard (and honestly, whatever else we’ve got lying around) we aim to create theatrical experiences which reflect our full artistic potential without reliance on the grandeur and trends of showmanship we’ve come to expect from contemporary theater.

our mission

Like a child tyrant crowned too early, we boldly step forward into leadership, decision making, and autonomy in a time of artistic and global uncertainty. Boy King exists to champion live performance and usher in a new theatrical age of respair. By utilizing quixotic ideals, we strive to stretch the imaginations and emotions of our audiences. We make performances that are rooted in the service of every person in the room, ourselves included. Boy King Theatre Collective aims to herald the next artistic renaissance

humilitas

We humbly come with the weight and understanding of our youth and novelty. We accept that we are constantly growing and learning. Our art is primarily built on the modesty of everyday actions and how they could become extraordinary.

servitium

We are in service to our audiences as well as ourselves. We strive to create performances that people want to see and experience; theatre that is new, bold, and exciting. Most importantly, we aim to create the art that we wish to experience.

veriditas

We are green. We honor the fact that as young artists we have the vigor to push the boundaries of what theatre and art could be. Our newness helps us create innovative, bold, and invigorated theatre and performance art.

Emmalias is a playwright, performer, author, and theater maker currently based in San Diego, California. They are a founding member of Boy King Theatre Collective. Their work typically explores the nature of flesh, queer bodily forms, and constructions of violence. That is a very buttoned up, ‘they asked for a bio’ way of saying they read a lot of queer theory and love the ewey-gooey-gushy stuff, especially on stage. You can read more about their work at emmalias.com.
